Backpacking Northern Thailand – The Northern Twist
After arrival in Bangkok and you have visited all the temples and had your fun on khaosan rd. You have taken in all of the fumes and all of the smells no better place to escape is the Northern part of Thailand.
When Backpacking Northern Thailand you do have the option of visiting Ayutthaya (Thailand 4 th capital, where they have Thailand most photographed Buddha image) & Lopburi which is the 3 rd capitol and has almost as many monkeys as people just strolling around the town. These two towns are eye openers themselves and you haven’t got north yet.
You could then take the 20.45 train from lopburi to Chiang Mai. For the lazy people who are not at all fussed on seeing places along the way then take a 19.35 pm train direct from hua lamphong station, Bangkok to Chiang Mai.
Chiang Mai is Thailand’s second biggest city and was the first capital of Thailand during the Lanna period of time. It is a city of mountains and temples, old and new. Chiang mai is a very attractive city featuring old city walls and a moat running through the city. Famed for its night bazaar where you can buy anything from homemade trinkets to chang t shirts, for those who don’t know chang means elephant and is a local thai beer and is a highlight of the Backpacking Northern Thailand Tour.
The highlights of chiang mai is to visit doi suthep temple and Doi Inthanon National Park. Doi Inthanon National park is above sea level and host many Hill Tribe who have fled from Burma and Tibet over many years.
It is an experience not to be missed, to go trekking with these hill tribes, learning about local culture , riding elephants, and whitewater rafting on the river ( not for the faint hearted). Staying overnight in the hilltribe village with the rest of your group. about 10 people. Do not worry about your luggage as it will be stored until you return from the trek, you will be issued with a small army rucksack.
Then as an extra visit Pai, here you can stay at a circus school, learn how to tightrope walk, or even ride a unicycle while looking at the amazing view of mountains,, just get inn that infinity pool. Pai is home to some of Thailand’s most amazing waterfalls and hotsprings. Take a motorcycle and explore this amazing place and take time to look back on the last few days of your Backpacking Northern Thailand Adventure.
